“I realise now that you still have watch what you eat and continue to exercise”

It was second time round success for busy shift worker Cheryl.Past success
I had previously lost 30kg with Weight Watchers ten years ago by attending Meetings. When I reached my goal weight I became complacent. I thought it meant I could eat whatever I liked! Not surprisingly, I slowly regained 10kg of the weight I had lost.
Getting off the merry-go-round
Over the last few years I’d been riding the weight loss merry-go-round and I wanted to get off. I wasn’t happy with the way I looked and felt dissatisfied. I tried prescription diet pills and the shake meal replacement diet but I would only gain back what I lost. I knew Weight Watchers worked, but this time I decided to try Weight Watchers Online. As a shift worker, online fitted around my life perfectly.
Logging on to lose
My favourite thing about Weight Watchers Online is that all the resources are at your fingertips whenever you want them. The tracker, recipe database and the message boards are my favourite features, just to name a few. I like the convenience of not trying to fit a meeting schedule in to my busy week with rotating shifts.
My daily diet
I always start my day with breakfast no matter what time I get up for work. I enjoy Summer Porridge or weetbix with banana and milk. For lunch on the run I’ll grab a chicken teriyaki Subway roll. I always make sure I carry healthy snacks such as Weight Watchers Cereal Bars and easy to carry fruits like mandarins or apples. I try to snack often, which is important when being a shift worker as this avoids hunger, which can lead to unhealthy choices.
Time to exercise
My regular exercise is walking. I do sixty minutes of walking two or three times a week, plus a ninety-minute walk if I can fit it in around work hours. I recently went on a holiday with my husband up to the mountains and we went for two long bushwalks a day.
Reflecting back
I realise now that you still have watch what you eat and continue to exercise once you reach your goal weight. Life gets hectic sometimes and as a mother, wife and daughter you often place family first and yourself second, but you have to make yourself a priority.
My new life
Since reaching my goal weight over a year ago, I have kept the weight off. I continue to exercise and eat well, rather than slipping back into old habits. I feel fabulous and have loads more energy. My self-esteem has increased and I receive many compliments that motivate me and help me stay focused while I maintain a healthy weight for the rest of my life.
