This healthy option makes a sweet and refreshing dessert, using juicy navel oranges. Serve with a dollop of creamy plain yoghurt.

Ingredients

4 medium orange
1 tsp (s) vanilla essence, (or 1 vanilla bean split lengthwise)
1/2 tsp (s) ground cinnamon, (or 1 cinnamon quill)
2 tsp (s) powdered artificial sweetener
400 g skim plain yoghurt

Instructions

  • Remove skins from oranges with a sharp knife, catching any juices on a plate. Slice oranges thickly and place in a shallow dish, with reserved juice.

  • Scrape seeds from the vanilla beans (if using) or add the vanilla essence and combine with oranges. Add ground cinnamon (or cinnamon quill) and sweetener. Stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate for several hours for flavours to develop. Allow oranges to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving.

  • Serve oranges drizzled with juice and yoghurt.

Notes

  • These spiced oranges are also delicious with the inclusion of star anise, which adds a subtle aniseed flavour. Star anise can be found in the Asian food section of most supermarkets or at Asian supermarkets. Simply add it to the oranges and allow it to infuse in the juices.
