Except for the very odd night/lunch out, I eat the exact same thing every day. I'm big on structure and control (making sure I get the recommended dairy/veg/fruit/grain serves daily).

I wonder if this hinders weight loss as the scales aren't really doing what I'd like them to do.

I have very little oil/ or fat in my diet too.

Should I shake things up a bit?
Any thoughts appreciated :)

Can you just switch up varities of the food group you normally eat.. For example.. just say you eat an apple for morning tea, can you change it to an orange? Or instead of a yoghurt, maybe have a custard? Do you even have the same dinner each night?

Oh and I add avocado each day to my lunch. I have premium biscuits, with avo and then a variety of different toppings.. sometimes just avo and vegemite, sometimes ham and chilli jam, sometimes cheese and tomato.. Even though it's the same sort of lunch, it is a little varied :)

I've been wondering this too as my breakfast, snacks and lunch are very similar each day l only mix it up at dinner.

Yep, even my dinner is basically the same.

May give the avocado a go, but I am a little scared of fats - even the healthy ones...

Don't be scared of good fats! I know it's easy to say. lol

Why are you so scared of it? I have half an avo mashed, basically everyday. I don't eat any other fats or oils really, so I think it's a good way to get in my dose of fat.

I honestly think you need to vary it up.

I am a huge creature of habit and find I have more success and control when I eat the same thing.

The way I see it, If i am eating to the Healthy Guidlines (which WW recommend)then it isnt going to do any harm. If it was the same thing for breakfast, lunch and dinner it might not be a good idea though! lol

Just do what feels right and works for you... your body will soon tell you if it doesnt like it!

Hi

I can understand how you might eat the same thing all the time, I guess that makes it really easy to plan your meals, shopping and cooking and you must feel so in control of your food. But don’t you get incredibly BORED???

I actually find that I do better when I eat a large variety of foods and introduce new recipes at least once a week, often more than one a week. Yes, my recipe folder is chaos. It works for me because I spend time appreciating the new tastes and textures rather than my usual rushed way of eating the things that I am used to. Also, I’m more confident that I’m getting all the nutrients I need when I eat a variety of foods.

This is my second time doing WW and the first time I basically ate the same things all the time... Vegemite on toast for breakfast an either sushi or subway for lunch... It worked, I lost 12kg... But this time around I'm enjoying lots of variety and having fun finding new recipes, snacks, lunches etc... I'm more enthusiastic about the whole thing and I'm not bored at all... And this is working too. I'm 1.4kg away from being the same weight I got to last time... But I have more drive to get to goal this time (5.4kg away) as I'm not bored... And I can't stand looking at sushi or subway this time. Overkill.

Mmmmm...you might need to challenge your metabolism a bit with some new and exciting choices. You might even find you enjoy sourcing new recipes and being a bit creative. This might be a little unsavoury for message boarding but I find if fats aren't eaten (as they are supposed to be daily) then constipation becomes a problem!

I can only speak for myself, but I am a creature of habit and eat the same breakfast, snacks and lunch every single day, and love it!

Dinner is usually a choice of three that I keep repeating too. None of this hindered my weight loss, and I got to goal losing 21kgs in 28 weeks.

Re: the fats/oils. I have been told that our body needs these for healthy hair, skin and nails. Take it from someone who has lost a decent amount of weight - now, more than ever, you want to look after your skin to keep it elastic and avoid sagging!

I have recently started eating a half avocado a day, and have actually lost about 3/4 of a kilo. The avocado has kept me feeling fuller, and therefore avoiding snacking. Plus, as I said above, its good for me and I feel great!

Hope this has given you a little to think about.

Best wishes,

Lots of different ideas but the main thing is do what works for you.I do not have any oil or fats and I can honestly say my skin and hair was never in better condition and I am at least 20 years younger looking since shedding over 28 kg's.

This may be wrong, but our Area Manager told us this at training...good fats and oils are meant to be just that, 2tsp of good pouring oil a day.Apparently avocado and nuts etc are NOT a substitute but will definitely keep you fuller for longer if eaten.

I like to vary my daily food and exercise but thats just me!

I like to vary my diet so that I can take advantage of all the different nutrients different foods have to offer.

Breakfast is often the same during the week due to time - muesli and yogurt, but on the weekends I often make poached egg, tomato, mushroom and toast or pancakes and maple syrup.
i love the variety and the challenge of fitting all the different foods into my 18 point allowance.

Believe it or not, but a diet consisting of much the same thing week in week out has been pointed in some studies to actually help weight loss!! I'm certain I even read of it in the WW mag.

If nothing else, it makes planning easier, and not everybody has gobs of time to plan their meals all the time (I don't).

I think it's really whatever works for you.

The only real rule should be "take in less energy than you expend" and you should lose, but as we all know it isn't always that easy.

I like to eat as wide a variety of food and fruit and veg as I can, but that's just because I've learned that if I eat the same things over and over I plateau a lot more.

I also find that just as effective is mixing up the times and number of meals I eat - some days it's lunch at 12, some days at 2, some days 5 small meals over the day, early / late dinner, sometimes brekky and sometimes not - I just find it keeps my body guessing which seems to keep me working at peak weight loss.

Also though, I would be kind of worried about you getting all those vitamins and minerals and all the trace amounts of things you need to keep your body working properly and keep those energy levels and metabolism working at their best.

But so long as you are happy, feel good and losing weight - keep doing what you're doing! If not, maybe it's a good time to mix it up and experiment?
